Hire me for proofreading!

Proofreading is the final step to be completed just prior to submitting or publishing your manuscript. This step is the final buffing and polishing, to catch any errors that were introduced during other levels of editing. Proofreading should not be done in place of other forms of editing, such as developmental or copy editing!

A proofread includes review of the following:

  • Spelling and grammar (including punctuation, sentence structure, tense consistency, etc.)

  • Checking for consistency and overall readability

  • Chapter sequence verification

  • Minor formatting (obvious paragraph break or spacing issues)

  • Style sheet provided after edits. (A style sheet is a handy document that lists style choices used in your manuscript - spelling of unusual words, hyphenated words, proper nouns, grammatical choices, etc. A style sheet can be used to maintain consistency throughout a manuscript, or even throughout multiple manuscripts if you’re writing a series. The proofreading style sheet will be slightly less in-depth than a copy editing style sheet.)

What is NOT included with proofreading?

  • Developmental editing or deeper levels of copy editing (I provide those as separate services)

  • Fact checking or citation verification

  • Word choice suggestions or line editing

  • Characterization, timeline, location issues

  • Indexing, bibliography, or table of contents creation (will proof for textual content only if already present)

  • Formatting and layout

  • Subject expertise

  • Editing in any languages other than English

  • Translation

  • Ghostwriting

  • SEO optimization or analysis
